Tips to Keep You Calm | Breakfast for Rushed Mornings | Tips For Weight Loss

  • In the last few weeks, I've talked about self-awareness, self-acceptance, and emotional intelligence. It seems only proper to finish this mini-segment with self-care. Self-care is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves and for others. It's unfortunately is one of the easiest things to ignore. Anyone who is a parent, a child with an elderly parent who needs their care, someone who has someone important in their life going through something difficult, and/or someone who works in a help/care environment knows how easy it is to get so involved in the care of those other areas that you lose sight of caring for yourself. Self-care is a significant element in stress management. While self-awareness and emotional intelligence is crucial in allowing one to recognize symptoms of anxiety and stress, self-care is the final step in dealing with that anxiety and stress in a healthy way. Stress mounts over a period of time. Unmediated, unresolved stress can be carried around for a long time and as more stress is added, it can easily begin to overflow into all our areas of life. It is common to see stress lead to a variety of problems such as issues with sleep, issues with concentration, issues with health, issues with relationships, poor performance in various areas, and dysfunctional behavior. There is a quote, I am not sure who the original author is, that states "You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first." We all need to take care of ourselves to ensure we are the best selves we can be, it is when we are at our best that we can best care for others. Remember, self-care is not selfish!
